is this new site driving anyone else crazy!!!? or maybe it's supposed to?

Oh yes, gotta love usability - changing the mouse cursor to a custom cursor that does nothing other than look like a different cursor and react slowly.

"the other cursor you see is someone elses in real time."
"other?" I only see one cursor and it's doing everything I do in real time ;)

Crap, I just tested it on two differant machines, and could see cursor of teh other computer running around the screen behind me!
(was discouraged before cause the nav wouldn't send me anywhere though?)
hat's off to MOOCK!
one question though, does everyone have to agree on the nav choice?

at fitc he talked about wanting to create a sense of community online, working together.
he wants to create experiences that are similar to the path worn in a field as a result to many people walking in one place.cool stuff, glad someone is doing it.
now go buy unity from him *ching

smells like flash communication server, not very impressive
the multi user drawing apps now thats cool flash experimentation

Not to be a stick in the mud, but I don't need other viewers cursors moving in front of me to remind me that other people are using the web.
To Moock's credit, I don't need to see real-time viewer's cursors to know that there are people visiting his site. I assume there's always someone there checking his great stuff out.

because he can.

it doesn't actually work for me, it just says 'telling other users....' that's just bollocks innit, i mean, i click somewhere i want to see, he tells everyone what i clicked on and then doesn't actually even show me what i asked for.

New website has some good ideas but doesnt execute them so well imo.
I like the idea of "not feeling alone" at a website, and any interaction that might ensue... in some cases this is a good idea. I think the way it was implemented was more of a "look I can do this" rather than doing something useful with the code. If you were to give users the ability to be seen or not when visiting your site, and in addition, give simple communication tools to them - it might be nice to encourage dialoug between the visitors... in many cases it could enhance the experience. Just showing people as arrows dodging around the screen doesnt do much for me personally.
The idea of showing wear to a site is something I've thought of for a while now. It might be intresting to find a use for it, perhaps as a way to show the popularity of an area or something. Maybe creating a script that can apply natural looking wear to a button or area that has been visited repeatedly (in increments per visitor). Sorta like the elements might wear on a rock over time, or how a real world interface might start to show visible wear such as scratches/abraison and fading.
As for the whole Unity server I'm really not sold. There are many open source projects dealing with XML sockets to add realtime interactivity to Flash without having to pay for it. i don't discredit Moock for wanting to bank on a product, but I quite prefer his writing and teaching over his selling what appears to be an overpriced product.

woah, I also checked it on my 2 compis and it was kinda scary.. great stuff

the site is based on concepts he spoke about at Flash Forward, iirc. he spoke about different navigation structures with multiple users co-existing in the same environment. this site works by you relying on other users. i think it's awesome. and it's a cool idea that is taking navigation in new directions. so quit bitching, he doesn't have to cater to you. it's his god damn website.
