Has anyone added one of these to handle a large HD 250GB? Any good ones out there?
Thanks,

just use firewire, usb 2, or serial ata.
ide controllers blow because their clock speed is way lower than the above connections

enjine, that isn't the solution to his problem.
if you have an internal harddrive that is ata133 and over 120GB capacity...some motherboards won't read it correctly.
most default the drive to ~32 or so GB.
the pci controller card allows ata133 high-capacity drives to read correctly on a ata100 motherboard.
it has nothing to do with firewire or usb.
and, sata? maybe if it were a sata drive, but not ide.
usually, the best thing to do is use the card that comes with the drive. if not, go the manufacturer of the drive. ie, if you got a maxtor drive buy a maxtor pci controller card.
in the end, any should work...but you may need to update your bios as well.

You might be better off getting a new motherboard though - the difference between controller cards and some of the cheaper boards isn't that great. It might give you the odd boost here or there too...

either way if you are using external, u will only get 8mb

ok maybe i should explain my situation a little better:
I have Dell Dimension 8250 - replacing the mother board is not an option because i will loose my warrenty. I have two internal HD, 1 40 and the other 120. I have an external 120 and another 80. I would like to purchase a 250gb internal hd to use insead of the 120, but keep that 120 for backup. I could get an external one but i'm running out of space on the desk and it cost almost 2x as an internal one does.
I need a good IDE controller card so that i don't loose on performance if i get a nice Maxtor DimondMax 10 HD.

the like i said, buy a maxtor ide controller card.
:)
