so, my friend who design logo for 2010 just got his email:
...................................
> Dear Vancouver 2010 Olympic Emblem Design Competition Entrant,
> In order to participate in the Design Competition, all participating entrants and designers signed an Intellectual Property Rights and Confidentiality Agreement, which provides that VANOC owns all submitted designs, including designs that are not chosen as the 2010 Olympic Emblem, and requires all entrants and designers to maintain the strict confidentiality of their design and all information regarding their design.
> Design Competition entrants or designers that disclose their designs or information regarding their design are infringing VANOC> '> s exclusive rights in the designs and breaching their obligations under the Intellectual Property Rights and Confidentiality Agreement. Any participation in, or assistance of, such wrongful conduct by the media also constitutes an infringement of VANOC> '> s exclusive rights and other actionable wrongs against VANOC.
> For the vast majority of participants who have upheld this confidentiality agreement, we sincerely thank you. We are very proud of your response to the Emblem Design Competition, and hope that you respect the winning designers and celebrate their success.
>
> Thank you.

why not use the thread already running on the topic? it have a really good discussion going there
- setsolid0
because its not about the design... read it.
- designerror0
i did, but never mind

well, such as it is with any organisation that requests logo designs and the like. Sucks that you have to give up rights to your own work, but thats the way it is sometimes. It's an agreement, so if they agree to it then they should respect it, even if it IS shitty that they can't say "hey check out the design I did for the Vancouver Olympics" without getting sued.
:( oh well, that's life.

i wonder if people can post/show logos that they design for 2010 but did not mail it to them.
- setsolid0
but again the own the 5 rings... so that means u can't even put it in ya folio?
- fifty500
of course, i don't see why not.
- designerror0
what the hell are they gonna do with 1600 logos... it's just stupid
and fuck em and their ownership and rights to the logo, if you made it, you can show it all you want!
might not be legal..
- kbags0
if you submitted it under the terms of that agreement, you cannot legally show it to anyone or place it in your public portfolio. more specifically, they can issue a cease and desist order against you at which time it is advisable to stop. i don't see them taking legal action against joe designer unless publicity of a design becomes a big deal for a specific reason that reflects poorly on the IOC. then again, i'm not the corrupt IOC, so i don't know how crazy they really are.
bleepin' fascists!
- setsolid0
they are very crazy... they sue a greek resturent in vancouver... the name of the reustruent is Olimpic .... and they have the name over 10 years.....
- setsolid0

i like the Olympics, especially the winter ones. well...some of the events anyway...because it just so happens that Canada does well in those events...
- vburo0
which means greg (and other participants) is officially not allowed to show it in his portfolio, and that sux major ass.
i mean what's next?? do they own those inukshuks as well now??
bunch of fucking hitlers.
- vburo0
jaline i understand that. as you are also the only one here who reads YM..

But it is very shiesty for them to do this...

Spec work + 150 dollar entrance fee = hey dont have to spend a dime to com4e up with the prize money, and a free logo for them, and then they restrict you from showing it to display your skills.
Paying 150 dollars for someone to own your work and no one gets to see it, thats retarded.
