Yes, SRV = brilliance.
Check this cat out, young guitar genius, oft compared to SRV when he was a little younger. His latest is a little harder, but man he wails:

whoa, kenny wayne shepherd's new stuff is SO HARD. What happened?
- Trulo0
I've seen KWS twice in the last few months on his new tour and he still played some mean blues. In my opinion his new stuff is not his best, but his live blues jams are still worth seeing.

ehhhh, he's alright, great guitarists, average singer.
dead too early for sure

my brother is an instrumental guitarist and has all this crazy unreleased SRV shit that he let me borrow. ill post one of the acoustic jams he did. it is fucking unbelievable! its only two and half minutes long but he is rocking out the entire time with no break. unreal.

You've heard one self-indulgent guitar solo you've heard em all.

(Apr 25 05, 18:38)i dont think he is in the self-indulgent guitarist category. any of the hairband guitarists, yes. but not the like of a SRV, or a BB King, etc. i just think they have a lot of respect for the instrument.
- Mimio0
I'm just fucking around. I think he's an incredible musician. Tons of soul.

when i lived in austin i used to run around town lake, there is a bronze statue of him on the trail by lamar
id slap it on the way by

i think SRV does fall into the self-indulgent guitar solo 'area'.
i personally am a big hendrix fan and absolutely LOATH his hendrix covers. there's no feeling in them. imo.
there's the hendrix school, and then there's the SRV/clapton/phish school.
- kbags0
how can anybody put SRV/Clapton in the same school as phish? must be a very big liberal arts school?
All brilliant, however...
SRV/Clapton studied blues at Fender College for undergrad and got their Masters in the Rock-Blues with a concentration in wah-wah.
Phish come from university of grateful dead where they dropped out of the double-major program in harmonics and jamband.
- kbags0
And Hendrix didn't have to go to school because he is god of guitar.
- warheros20
hahahaha not to mention his sound engineers invented the:
wah, fuzz-face, octavia, uni-vibe.

I remember watching a SRV special on PBS, live in concert, he was wearing a blue komono, did you guys catch that? His version of Voodoo chile is pretty amazing.
