Anyone here in the design community collect or have access to old Schwinn Bicycles? Pre-1980 or so.
Let me know...I'm going to start collecting these bikes.

you must have a fat wallet.

I have a 1998 schwinn mesa, I want to convert into a SS. Too bad they went under, they made decent bikes.
Now the companies name is being bastardized by pacific cycle.

They're all over the place. Go to any garage sale in the US. Get a tetanus shot first.
What models/sizes are you going to collect?
20"
26"
27"

No, i just like collecting old stuff of value. I see it as a better alternative to putting money in the bank.

I spent my youth working at bikeshops. Just start going to shops all over and buying old parts, getting old catalogs become an expert. More than likely they will old repair bikes that people never picked up. Like Varsities & Collegiates(circa 1974). I idid a similar thing years ago and started collecting old Campagnolo component sets.

buddy, sorry i did not mean it as for you to go there.. i just checked that place as i had no idea of the prices for these bikes.. and then i figured i'd just post the links for other people that don't have a clue..

the Peapicker green reissue stingray (old schol style) is schweeet!!
- Mimio0
Yeah, you might be a little late-in-the-game for the Sting rays, Orange Krates, and Manta Rays. They're already HIGHLY collectable.

I used to work for waterford precision cycle (painting standard bmx frames) my old boss was richard schwinn. the schwinn travelling museum used to come through there a few times a year. fucking amazing. I have a 1962 sears and roebuck 26 inch that was brazed in the chicago schwinn factory. I restored that bitch and it is straight chilling in my mom's garage. supermetallic green with super metallic gold fenders and chain guard.

Nice MrD. Got any of those old Fillit-brazed Paramounts or Waterford farmes at your mom's house too?
- mrdobolina0
nah, but I painted about a million of them. finances aside, that was the coolest job I ever had.

I did design work for the fitness side of Schwinn. Bastardizing a brand is exactly what they were doing too.
- Mimio0
What a joke that was Soler,
I would have to go into people's homes and fix those gigantic home gyms and tread mills Schwinn was making in the late nineties. Good thing at the time I was a regular recreational drug explorer.

ha ha Mimio. Yeah, we churned those puppies out like they were nothin'
