a friend just got burned by a web designer/host and wants me to download his entire website for him off the web since we don't have access to the server. is there a program or utility that can automate this, or even just download all files from one page at a time?

you can "save as" in IE or "save page as" in firefox. and yeah there is software to dl a whole site.

hasnt anyone heard of testing? (like, on your own site)

well, it may sound shady, but it's not. my friend made a bad call and used a lame designer who charged him and ditched the project. so he asked me to get the files for him so he can continue with somebody else.
thanks for the suggestions.

WTF!?!? how do you segway from downloading a site into "testing"
i don't have to download my sites with a 3rd party application, I have rights and permission to my ftp so I do it the right way ;)

Well for example a friend wants me to redesign their site... rather than bother them with FTP info, I suck down their entire site structure and start redesigning.
Whats the problem?

well ribit-
if there is any coding involved other than html, youll have to chase down all the scripts and additional pieces in folders you never see
and if there is any php, when you save page as, you won't actually be getting the initial code that was written but just the output from that script
either way, permission or not:

sure... but it doesnt hurt to have all these tools... even if it just lets you get started on a project earlier while you wait for the customer to send you the full info...
