why spending money to advertise an old product when next version of window is coming out soon? can anyone make sense out of this plan?

1 - Longhorn is not coming out any time soon.
2 - Apple has picked up a lot of momentum over the last year and Tiger *IS* coming out soon.It just adds up to Microsoft feeling that their customers, be they willing or not, could use a little reminder who's really in charge here.
