Any recommendations for camera RAW processing software on OS X? Most apps seem to suck big time, and Photoshop's RAW processor is rather slow.

Let me start off by saying I am a professional photographer, and I have worked with most of the pro RAW processing software.
In order to answer your question, you got give me a little more info.
1. What kind of camera are you using?
2. The speed of the processing does take a while, because a RAW file holds all of the RAW data off your camera chip. What kind of computer setup you are running might effect the speed of your processing.
If you want to process a bunch of files, and you know it will take a long tme, just setup the parameters for those files that you are going to process, batch them, and come back later when they are done.Gt back to me on the camera you are using, and i'd be happy to make suggestions for software.

I'm using the Pentax *ist DS.

on a G5 the PScs RAW processor is pretty fast. We have a G4 and a G5 here and the difference is huge.

My first question to you was going to be why are you shooting RAW if you don't need the latitude it offers. But after quickly skimming www.dpreview.com detailed review of your model camera, I can see why. They claim the differnce between the jpg and RAW is night and day.
You might want to check that out (assuming you haven't)
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/…Sadly, I don't know much about pentax digital cameras. I myself use leaf and canon primarily. Had you been using canon, I was going to suggest CaptureOne software made by phase One.
http://www.phaseone.com/It's probably the best designed camera software around. It's a bit pricey, and it only works with canon, nikon, and phase one cameras.
I wouldn't concern yourself with the time it takes to process the image. you should be more concerned with the end quality. I would do a comparison of processing in photoshop CS vs. the pentax software. Use what works the best for you. I know that processing Canon files in Canos software works better than in Photoshop CS. But that's my preference. Maybe CS2 will change all that.
Anyway, check out dpreview and read it for yourself. Those guy's suggested some pretty good sites earlier, so check those out.
Good luck.
