Is there a plugin or a function in Ilustrator that can do the following?
if I make a line and I put a stroke weight on it of 10, then convert it to outlines, is there a way to then get back the center line.
for this case it for the letter S, I want to get a line in the center of its outlines, and I would rather not have to do it manulaly for the whole alphabet.

mmm, duplicate the line, then outline stroke one of them?
or am i missing the point?

offset path with a negative value?

Object menu, expand Appearence - you'll then get 2 objects - an outline od your stroke and stroke itseld. You just have to ungroup them

negative offset still gives the outlined stroke with possible overlapping/not a single path
In theory the Blend tool and a small script could do it fast but it wont because its not smart enough
Autocad and Maya can do it and i think the DTL font app can do it too

yeah the ofset path option worked out quite nicely however it still shrinks the original putlines rather than create a single outine in the center.
