it all depends on how you are handling the info you have... or indeed what info you have in the first place... no point drilling down into a site with no content

except if your style varies a lot.

one page folio is pretty much the most easiest to view for almost everybody

i believe its the responsibility of the designer to take the user or viewer to a new place a realm of your portfolio. we all know that we sit in front of the puter, our asses are sore and tired...we need to be visually distracted...1 page portfolios need more dynamics, but many pages can get lost...sell your self scan cash and slinetly flash that image plus nude girls always helps too!

"i prefer sites that are more unique, that the designer has put a lot of work in. if the designer can`t design his own site well, why would i hire him/her?"

I don't get paid to build my own site. If I was still a student and staying up late smoking dope and playing with Flash I'd have more wacky stuuf to show.
But I don't, I have to pay bills, and have a life away from the screen.
One page site for me. Keep it simple I reckon.

In my experience, people respond better to a one-pager. This is not to be taken as fact, just my observation. Instead of working AGAINST each other, the works actually complement one another as a single, cohesive overview develops for the viewer.

that said if the work is really good a one pager is a nice quick way to view.

I like it when a portfolio is a destination rather than a showcase; lots to see and do here.

I reckon it all depends on the sort of content you have got... for now we've decided on a simple site purely because for the reason of why would you want to trawl through a site to get to another site... give the user enough info so they know what the project is about and if they want to see the site they click a link... simple

trend? hells yeah. and thus bad? hells no.
like other people have already said, personal preferences, functionality and what works best. works best for your target audience or works best in what you're trying to get across, trying to tell your audience.
and if you just need 1 page for it than that's cool, if you need a flash site for it or 50 pages, cool as well. there are no real rules here.
both 1 pages and multipages have it's pros and contras. what i like about multipages, take presstube for instance, it has an entire archive something what's lacking in 1 pages, archives tell me a lot more about the designer and the growth, style changes etc. but multipages aren't that good in getting your tone of voice accross in a very brief moment, 1 pages are good at that (as long as they don't contain zillions of images) but if you're style is very divers than a 1 page won't work. anyways, i can go on and on, you get the idea.

it's all down to personal preference.
Personally I love one pagers - it lets me get right to the work without having to fart around with ambigous or flashed-out navigation.

I've noticed that nobody has much time to gloss over websites with fancy animations anymore. They want to click in and view stuff within a minute and then move on if they're bored within 10 seconds or so. If your site is built with many layers of information dropping down from menu to page to another page then it makes it more a chore to navigate.
I think this will push the software and site construction further than point and click.

flash portfolio + 1 pg html portfolio.
people like to think theyre in controll...

and imo, i think that if the work is good, the 1-pager is very effective

i like that typography work on your page Nick!

good point. that's something I never considered.
you basicly having your entire site downloaded for each pageview... that's gotta eat up bandwidth fast.

i bumped it, called "portfolio websites"
and imo, i think that if the work is good, the 1-pager is very effective

good question monNom:
here is pro con
onepage pro:
get to see all work at once.
Easy to use, just scroll down.
its consider "cool" at this time.
easy to update.onepage con:
user have to wait for the last work to load on the end of the page. it loads everything on one one page, its not bandwith friendly, since it load everything.since your work is all in one page, it also fight aganst each other in one physical space..

check the "portfolio sites" thread for some good dialogue on this subject.

My problem with 1 pagers is that the work is all right there in front of you (the viewer). I think this is a bad thing. It's so easy to quickly gloss over someones work. Where sectioned sites force people to actually take the time to look at the pieces.
Basically IMO:
1 Page ports = having 600 channels and a virtual TV guide giving you a picture in picture preview.
sectioned sites = making people flip from channel to channel and actually experience the show at fullscreen.

all things being equal, i would say both formats would be equally effective. there are good and bad examples of both formats.
one thing i like about the one-page format is you get a sense of seeing all the work at once, as if it was all laid out on a table.
