Recently Safari had been slowing to a crawl and bugging the hell out of me.
After reading a few posts here and there, I did the following.
1. Downloaded Safari Enhancer and deleted the icon cache
2. System Prefs: turned off smooth scrolling
3. Safari prefs: removed the autofill caches.
Works like a dream again. And please dont post " JuST USe FiReFox !!!" - I use both, thanks.

you can also set font smoothing to light, and set it to not smooth under 12pt sizes

what't the 'safari enhancer'?

Its a little app that can do all kinda dumb things to Safari - like remove the brushed aluminium effect, but usefuly it can delete the ico cache.
It does other things like turns on the Debug menu - so you spoof your agent setting and export bookmarks etc.

thanks so much for this post, it has been doing exactly the same thing for me and I have been getting so sick of it.
Look forward to taking the "three steps to speedy browsing again"
and yes, I use Safari and Firefox both.
btw, know how to set Firefox as OSXs default browser?

yeah, oddly you have to do it in Safari's prefs !
