I'm trying to decide on a sampler/drum machine. Anyone here have any advice? Something affordable would be great, but I know MPCs and SPs can be pricey. I can come up with funds eventually, but which is the best? It would be used in the studio and probably on stage as well.
Thanks for any ideas.

The Korg ESX1 looks nice for a pricepoint sampler. Decent amount of memory.

Id go with the MPC... Ive owned one for 5.5 years now and havent had anything break, and it still meets the needs of my music process.
I havent used any of the newest versions of it except for the XL and its even better. Time stretching and resampling...
For live shows its the shiznit, Can put it in loop mode and turn on/off each individual tracks and mix to a new one. Plus sintead of having to program evythg in step sequence mode you can do the melody in real-time.
MPC all the way!

ahh. zoom makes garbage. I'd rather use some boss sp202 than something by zoom.

why would you spend money on an MPC ?
i know, they are 'classic' and all that
but with a half decent computer and a MIDI keyboard/pad
you can kick an MPC's ass.

id have to agree, but weve had pretty good luck with that thing. piece of shit, but it works, it's easy to use...and its cheap.

anyone here ever used reaktor ?

blackspade, there is just something about having a fully tangible sampler. I've tried both ways, I find making loops is way faster on an actual sampler then some app with a midi controller.

i dunno man.. using logic?,
just as fast as building a loop on an MPC using sigle beat samples

just seeems so 'backwards' in this day and age, when you could have so much more control
??

I agree with blackspade..
The Mpc was a great sampler back in the day, the centre of serious any hip hop artist.
Today Akai is making mpc sampler style midi controllers that not only function the same way as hardware but they also have extra features like unlimited HD space to start?
For a sampler? 8 years ago I will just dream about something like that.Software based samplers are changing my friend, get on the train!
