Not been to an interview in a while, but when I was I liked to think of either two things to lighten the mood in my mind:
1) Wearing a tuxedo to the interview.
2)If hired, wearing a tuxedo to the first day of work, insisting that all your suits were either at the cleaners, or you didn't feel they were the right style for their office.Had those thoughts in my head for at least 5 years now and it's always funny.

I'll keep that in mind mg33.
but, I used to wear tuxedoes to work all the time... I was a caterer through school. The though just brings back memories of cleaning up after drunk rich folk at 3 AM.

i had this crazy friend who just stared at the guys forehead for the entire interview.
at the end he asked him 'did you notice i was staring at your forehead the whole time?'
you should try it!

dress nice, relax, be yourself (because if you're not, they'll realize it a week after hiring you an can your ass), be assertive and confident..... interviews are the easy part, waking up at 7am to goto work everyday is were it gets tricky ;)

i haven't been to any interviews in a while, but when i was, it was like who knows who... it's such a small world here. crazy...
those are all good studios to be at. especially when you are just starting out in new york.

I've just been interviewing and got a job within three days.
I reckon - Don't be a cocky c*nt like I've just been there ^ (the people who are interviewing you will definitely know more and have more experience than you)
Don't excuse anything in your folio i.e. "this job was very client-led" etc.
Don't overestimate your folio
Don't underestimate it either!
Just try to have a chat rather than sit and answer questions - try to take conversation away from work and your folio for a bit because the likelihood is that they've seen stuff like yours/everyones a million times and heard all the bullshit in the world about 'why this' and 'why that' - Let them know about yourself and your character - even if it's the most astounding folio in the world - they'll know THAT just by looking at it but it won't tell them anything aboot yersel'
Be honest
Realise that they've been there before as well
Finally, don't rant on as much as I have here...

ian - I see you started your own design business.... May I ask why you want to leave and go work for someone else?
