Hey guys, a good friend of mine went to empty his trash and it said it was deleting like 4,000 files. Somehow his folder with a majority of his work ended up in the trash and most of it got deleted(gigs of shit), including a job due on monday. My question is, what are his options as far as how to recover those files? Is he screwed? This is a huge emergency, so if anyone has suggestions, please hook a brother up!

thanks benfal, would that software have to be installed on the computer when this happened, or is it something he can go buy and then use?

he's screwed...unless he had a file recovery program already installed.
I had the same situation happen to be last year. Lucky for me I had a semi-backup of my files on my laptop.
You could always try those file recovery companies, but they say they can't get everything back, if anything.

It's best to recover before doing, well, anything on the problem Mac. Data is never deleted, despite how it looks, until it's overwritten by something else. Get some recovery software, like Norton's or whatever the kids use these days and install it on ANOTHER Mac and firewire 'em together so the recovery comp. sees the other as a slave drive. Then it's in Jebus' hands.
I feel your (buddy's) pain. I once reformatted the wrong hard drive during an OS reinstall. My own stupidity, but it still sucked.
