if anyone knows something that's happening in IE5 I would appreciate it immensely!!!

Screenshot doesn't work.

You've got your gradient and picture there set as "background" in the CSS right?
Try inserting the images directly into their containing DIV's.
I dont have a MAC but I have a hunch it's because IE wont show a DIV unless you actually put something between the tags... like the PC version.

naw, if a DIV has a background then it should show as well, make sure you have its size set.

Ya, as long as the height and width are set it should work fine. Now, you might find this intersting. The first link is how it looks on IE5.2 Mac for me and the second is after tinkering for a bit.
I never had a problem with the page header not showing, just the rest of the layout breaking. I fixed these problems by changing #supporting_text's left attribute to margin-left and giving #page_header the overflow: hidden attribute to get rid of that extra 10px or so.
Fun stuff.

And besides, the page header div isn't empty...

Don't have time today to look into it but this might come in handy

I'm a Mac user and I don't support IE 5 any more. If a mac user isn't using Safari or Firefox they shouldn't be aloud any where near the web ;)

thanks for replies guys...
The problem is, this is kind of a test project - I can't touch the index.htm file at all - have to make the whole site using only CSS like at:
and setting the heights on the divs doesn't work because content will vary from pages.

i've had this problem before. I got around it by adding clear gifs to the div on the page, then IE 5 on the mac and NN6 seems to see what's behind them.
