ok we've had a "change of policy" at work and all of our shiny macs are being "locked down" - basically they're not letting us have admin rights.
So i can't rename folders, move files or even put in a dvd without pestering a techie to do it for me blah blah tedium stupid time wasting corporate bollocks. So anyways i pestered the poor techie bloke every half hour this morning to bore him into giving me admin rights for the day so i can sort me mac out, but my question is, now that i'm in, is there a sneaky way of finding out the administrator password so that tomorrow when he takes away my admin rights again i can still get some work done?

if you have admin rights you can create new user accounts with the same rights you have now. you can use those for a while untill he notices it.

and you know you're going to get in trouble right? companies don't really like it when employees start hacking root accounts.

boot up from the osx cd will not work.
The system will still ask for the Admin password. Only way I now how to get around this in to unconnect from the server and reinstall. But then you will not be part of the server list and have no Internet connection.
