contact your local hardware store, and ask for something called a "mallot" i've had that problem before, and i'm thinking that will solve your problem.
thanks.

Do you have any PC cards plugged into your PCMCIA card slots?
- swollenelbow0

restart in safe mode, uninstall the network controller driver, restart in regular mode and reinstall the driver

Got one already, hate the pc but i'd still prefer it worked.

gilt: removed them
gabriel2: when i click f12 on startup it says 'preparing boot menu' or something, but it never takes me there because the error message appears
- gabriel20
try f8
- MLVR0
f8? when? nothing happens...
- gabriel20
hit that the second your computer starts up, just keep hitting it till it goes into safe mode, if you still get the error before you can get into start mode you'll have to muck around in your bios or use the windows XP install disc and boot from that...

did you install some hardware before this started happening?

*hugs his mac
"this will never happen to you"

did the network card slide out?
- grafholic0
yeah it's either that network card is not securely installed in the slot or possible driver conflict.
