i have a new client which is a indie record label and they want a CMS i know that Asterik Studio does this kind of work all the time for Flawless records and such. i was just wondering if anyone knew what CMS they were using for sites It seems that if you look at the source of their sites they are all formatted the same.
Just curious before i outsource a giant CMS project.

have a look look at Macromedia's Contribute app.

it's hard to say if sites use the same cms based on the format of the site. cms is quite transparent and actually on the surface you can't really notice the presence of a cms.

can tell you though that although there are prefab cms's out there you still need to customize it to the client needs. which can still lead to a lot of work or not.

I realize i need to customize it i was just looking at several different ones and trying to compare. I want to keep the whole project in house. i was just trying to weigh out my options -- outsource or not.
Aserik just had several options on quite a few of their sites that the client was looking for and I didnt know if anyone knew of a base CMS they start with.
Thanks for the insight though.

Once a studio has developed a CMS for one site - they tend to use the same one and adapt it to other client's needs....

I just finshed a large photo based cms for a photo production company, everyone told to use this and that, but no one really had the experience or expertise with building a CMS before, so i paid a little extra, got a damn fine programmer, and it went off without a hitch.

just ask them. they're very nice fellas.

lmao @ stew. yeah could be the same cms but still could also be just the same layout and have no cms at all.
true though what jevad says. then again, why invent the wheel over and over again.
anyways, this one's for free:

rabattski
really - i saw the CMS code of the websites i posted.
i'll assure you that you don't even THINK of changing the layout if you've seen that system. it's aweful and they have to forbid the sale of that system.
you know the company behind rabattski, it starts with Pink...
