Has anyone with a site that has international hits a day (5000ish or more) had any problems streaming copywrited music on thier site? I want to start streaming a few tracks but don't want a cease and desist order to arrive at teh company headquarters. Anyone have any experience?

depends on what kinda' music and from what type of site and if credits are being issued to the artists and such. details?

why don't you record yourself humming the tunes and then stream that?

there are totally going to be credits. Just a simple pick 3 songs kinda player. And if i can get the boss to sign off on it, links to artists websites or something.

This is more than likely VERY MUCH ILLEGAL. I might sound like an expert on this, but, trust me, I'm not so I would recommend doing some research on your own.
Fair use provides you with the right to play music in a public setting, sort of, just so long as there is not even a hint of profit involved. This includes promotion. Do people do this and get away with it? Sure, all the time, but that doesn't mean there's a precedent to cite or a loophole to jump through.
Fair use does NOT provide you with the right to boardcast copyrighted music, especially to a potential audience numbering in the thousands. For this you would need to pay for an appropriate license. You can probably dodge this provision if you get the concent of the rights holders directly.
Again, take this with a grain of salt, but I think I'm not far off base.
Best of luck with it.
