do you think these people do?
I know we see these all the time, i am just curious what everyone thinks about turning ID and web design into a truly volume business.

obviously it won't be well received by those who do it and make a good living off it.
but like everything, if it can be commoditized, and as long as people will pay for the commoditized output, it WILL be commoditized.
all it will do is create another in the of cost/benefit ratio.

I think volume ID biz is utter jackassery, from a design standpoint.
It floods the world with half-ass designs that water down design as a whole.
I'm sure it makes money. Plenty of people think "why should I pay you to do my website? My nephew knows how to do that."

Pre packaged shite

it's most likely for people/businesses that really don't attach any significance to their logo or identity. they wouldn't be willing to pay more than $300 for something they see as just some extra clipart to put on their stationary.

I agree with all of you - It just baffles me knowing the amount of time i spend on ID work and to do that kind of volume and for so cheap - I picture a thai sweat shop full of design students with emo hair cuts churing out crap.

hahahh

AHAHAHAHAHA EMO HAIRCUTS
your rosy view of sweatshops is hilarious

I don't particularly like it, but there's no question that there is a market for people who just don't get it, don't care, or just don't want to pay. Just because a company pays these guys $300 for a logo doesn't mean they would have otherwise paid you $3000.

I guess there is a market for it - it just does not feel like raltionships are made - some faceless person creating your image that you show to the world. If people don't care, what can you do but educate.

maybe some people don't need it that badly. I think there is a case for having this kind of production, and I don't think it necessarily dilutes any other work done by designers.
Also from a standpoint of your work, if you can educate a potential client on the desireability/value/advantage of having a logo/identity created by yourself then you should probably be fine.
I also think that sometimes people can come up with better designs for themselves rather than having a designer do it. Obviously I'd never tell a client that...

looks like a crowbar operation to me - all those sort of orgs are to me.
does anyone out there actually work for them? be interesting to hear an inside word?

hiphoprelec has it on point.. it fastfoods the whole creative industry.
we decide what our shit is worth. sucks when someone says i'll do worse shit for less. and people buy it. just for convience.
the convience store logo shop. should call it 7/11
- JazX0
exactly, it's the nature of it all.

this is a joke.
anyone who gives half a shit about their business would take the time and get a legitmate designer, not these yahoos.
this is really gross.
- BZZZP0
most people in most businesses don't know the difference between what you would call a legitimate designer and what you would call a yahoo.
and if you explained it to them, some might get it, but many would still not , some would not care and some would just laugh at you.
