I was born in Cardiff, lived my formative years in Bridgend about 20 miles away. Drop me a mail and I'll let ya know.
It's a great city, with an affluent arts, design, film and animation culture.. also full of history (well most of south wales is). Also the nightlife's pretty hectic and something for all. You'll have a great time. Where's the job?

hey smellvetica, do you have any idea on the theatre design scene in cardiff? my g/f will be coming over and she's a theatre designer. sets and all that jazz
- smellvetica0
yup low, i've got a few mates that design for stage, they're mostly in london that have come from the following college. plenty of theatres in cardiff e.g. sherman, st davids hall, the new millennium centre down the bay. there's a good course here i think.. http://www.rwcmd.ac.uk/
http://www.icwales.co.uk for news.

cheers smell, she's not really looking for a course - she's been working for this theatre http://www.abbeytheatre.ie/ and has done lots of freelance and film work. She was planning to follow me over a few months later and it would be great if she could set something up beforehand. fingers crossed anyway.

Hello,
I have lived in Cardiff centre for 5 years, but I work just outside in Newport.
Cardiff is cool, loads to do and a arts scene. If you need any specifics let me know

i've got a few mates that design for stage = bat for the other side :)

low - you've also got bbc, htv, s4c (welsh channel 4) there too if she fancies set design i should imagine these are the boyos to write to.

Cardiff's pretty neat - it's more like a big town with a village mentality, than a capital city, and everyone seems to know each other (which has it's good points and bad too) .The arts scene is vibrant, but also pretty small and close nit (with only a handfull of independent galleries) , which at time does lend itself to a good community vibe. which no doubt extends to the theatre clan too. design wise, there semms to be hundreds of companies set up, and we had a bd4d gt together not long ago, with more promised soon. The beer is also a hella cheaper than most cities, and the rent ain't bad either.

that bd4d was pretty bland. there was only about 12 people there!

cardiff is nice i been there once. its a nice city that seems to be in the know design-wise and got a lot of decent architecture old and new. the maddest thing is the millennium stadium which is literally kerplonked right in the city centre! what was there before?
The nightlife is more than mad - the streets are mental there at the weekend. The highlight has to be KEBAB ALLEY! its a long alleyway filled with kebab shops and chippies (obviously to stop drunks wandering too much around the town lookni for food it confines them all to one area - needless to say this is the MADDEST part on weekend nights lol).
Didnt go clubbing but theres a goood mix of bars there. They seem to have a pretty big student population there so the bars are pretty well priced - even the "style" bars are reasonable.

'that bd4d was pretty bland. there was only about 12 people there!'yeah, I know - it was a bit shocking - clearly not enough people know what's good fer them ;)

- chameleonic0

- chameleonic0
Lowimpakt, where are you based now? Just out of interest

- de4k0
lived in cardiff centre or the last five years. ditto what most other people have said re. young, vibrant, close nit city etc.
under heavy development and has been the fastest growing European city for the second year on the trot now.and you're a short ride from the beautiful pembrokeshire coast.
plus the bay area is gonna be HUGE, when they've finished building apartments.
ps.
kebab or 'chippy' alley is now slowly being bought out to make room for swanky apartments.
