I just saw a job ad for a london studio offering £30k for a senior designer with 5 years experience.
Given the high cost of living in London I can't help thinking this wage is a little low.
So London designers, do you feel your wage is fair? Is it really hard times in the marketplace or are we being taken for a ride? Or are you being looked after quite nicely thank you?

Seems quite low - I get about £20k and have been working in the industry for less than a year.

mrming! haven't seen you on here for ages...? how's tings?
seems pretty low for a senior. but then it depends where and what kind of work.

I have been seeing the same old 30K for senear for the past 10 Years.
In this day and age 2005 and living in london 30K for what we do is just plain crap. I was speaking to a cab driver the other day about wages and he just larthed at how mush we get payed.

what about Dublin, is the salary/expenses ratio any better?

I wouldn't mind 30k right now.
Obviously, all the people with the money don't know what to do with it.

Yeah London wages are really shit, I'm on less than 20k with 2.5 year exp.
There are so many designers in london companies can pay what they like.
You could get a better standard of living up north, if you can find a decent job.

I'm from Dublin although I've never worked as a designer there. It prob just as expensive to live there as in London, and if anything the average wages seem to be a little lower.

My frinds up north can afford to buys houses but in London I don't think I will ever be able to afford a house that isn't in a shit area.

How much is the 'London Allowance' ?

Amsterdam is around E 45,- for 4 y. experience + about 10 for every year more.
I make around E65,- with 5+ years, but that's freelance and includes a lot of programming.
Considering A'dam is cheaper (though not that much anymore) than London the London wages suprise me. I was actually thinking of moving to LND but this really makes me think twice.

That is a bit low ming...I was senior web designer before I jumped ship to the states, 5 years commercial exp. and I was on 36K

it would be nice to have a little extra for a rainy day or help pay the rent/mortgage. I got back from Japan where the pay isn't so hot, but at least the cost and standard of living is more than fair for the amount of work they do. If the increases in fares for transport mirrored the quality of service i wouldn't mind so much.

London IS expensive - tell me about it!
Been living in this stinking cesspit for most my life.
Having spent almost 3 weeks in Spain recently, the new arseholes I've had torn into me during 2004 in London were beginning to heal. Now I'm back, the sores are opening again!
Help me, please God, to find a remote income so I can leave this cunting city and cunting country.
Unfortunately, southern Spain is victim of fellow British cunts exporting high property prices to Spain (and soon, eastern Europe)

Is Spain hot now to move to? I thought because no one speaks proper English there the job market was terrible for foreigners (except working in clubs and bars etc).

Spain is warmer than here and cheaper. Spent xmas and ny in Andalucia - awesome part of the world (if you can get over the middle-aged/middle-class Brit wankers who are fed up with Tuscany now but are ignorant enough to say "Prego" to the shopkeepers - cunts!)
Wouldn't wanna work there but would consider living there if I can find a remote income.
- Chimp0
Yeah, would love to live in Barca, but I can't speak any Spanish, I think its time to lern!

E_______ don't move to LDN unless you want some new arseholes torn into you. The only way to make serious dosh here is if you take the New Labour spirit and con people. Only people I see making serious wedge are spivs and bandits (working in the corporate landscape)
We have to pay a huge premium here to maintain the level of mediocrity as set forth by our rapacious government.
Tony Blair? Assassinate the cunt - and quickly!
