so i'm 1/3rd done with my senior year. graduating in may. love seattle, but as far as design hubs go, i haven't heard much buzz about it. anyone who is out there in the field know how the market is? i don't mind the rain.

market's pretty bad, which is weird considering how much money there is there. at least that was my experience, i lived there until i was 23 or so.

you can always work at ms. not much else up there right now i hear from friends.

we're always on the lookout for good talent.

"You can always work at ms."
Not exactly the easiest place to get and interview, or make it through for that matter. Chances of getting hired as a designer stright out of school: almost zero.

Man, if I thought I had more training under my belt, I'd shoot my resume to you right now protoculture.
However I'm ignoring my needs right now and I haven't put my portfolio online :(
Where are you guys located?

hey protoculture, you're at dual? I loved the Acts 29 site you guys did.

Economy bad in Seattle? Ive only been here about 8 months but we are swamped with work, and can hardly find time for ourselves. I really have nothing but good things to say about the area. Music, diversity and always something to do.

shit hot design eh? i always felt like you had to be on the art chantry type tip to get any recognition there.

It really depends on what field you want to get into.. And what level you're comfortable working at.. There's freelance work to be had, as well as work at ad agencies and design firms around town. If you're open to anything, you'll find something. If you're looking for something specific, it may be more difficult. It's a weird market, though. When it rains it pours but sometimes it's totally dry..

There are some great smaller interactive/ web design agencies around here, such as these guys:
I would just build a nice folio, check craigslist repeatably, and get freelance until you can land a gig. Worked for me.

asterikstudios dont hire.
all around seattle is swamped with people trying to find work.. many of them straight out of school.
If your work is good enough, you might find a job. But seattle is a saturated market.
- superbaka0
i know several guys that worked at ms straight out of design school. product/graphic design teams, and also x-box teams.

do you think the nyc market is saturated? just curious from the person that said that

I wouldn't call Pop "small"
Dual is small (10)
Asterik is small (7ish)Asterik does hire people, but I don't see them hiring off the street.
Anyway,
There are a TON of places in Seattle and a lot of them are hard to find or under-the-radar.
The bigger places in general don't do much edgy work.
There's a kinda large lack of interactive vision/brilliance in Seattle, I think. No real leaders in that area.
Well, yet.
Dual's workin' hard at it, though.
more seattle love:

i've lived on the east coast a majority of my life, and the other years were all spent in alaska. i prefer the west.

We're in Ballard, across the street from Anthony's, Ray's and the Puget Sound ;)

I ran across this place a few days ago.
