Hello all,
Just had a client ask me to develop some icons for an application they're building. Haven't done any of this kind of work before but it seems fairly straightforward. However, they're also asking for some of the standard Windows icons to use in the app - for instance, the collapse and expand buttons that show up in the Windows XP Control Panel on the left pane. Just wondering, are these standard Windows icons avaliable on my machine somewhere? This might seem like kind of a dumb question, but I searched for .ico file and didn't find them. I suppose I could recreate everything from scratch - but it would be nice to have the originals to work from. Cheers!

windows gets most of its icons from inside DLLs. most of the icons are in shell32.dll. you can download an icon editing program and extract the icons from the DLL

Thanks guys. This is kind of a shot in the dark, but are either of you aware of a standard XP icon for collapsing/expanding panels from left to right? For instance in Dreamweaver there is this functionality (the arrow tab at the edge of the left pane), but the look is not very "XP." I'm looking for the standard XP icon for this...

ehhhh, not really, but you should be able to find all your icons via that app he showed you. or just dig online

i don't know off the top of my head, but i'm sure if you google'd enough you'd find out

damn, im so slow

JazX, your friend has the right idea. Just keep updating the trial version available on your website with a minor version change, with the program layout/size altered a tiny bit. Just enough so a crack thinks it's not the right EXE file.

multiple times. 2000 and 2001. Visited for two months and then lived there for 6 months. Had a work visa doing stuff for Telia FI. Swedish company doing BS technical documentation. Lovely girls and food and such. Estonia is nice, a bit scary on the outside of Tallinn but nonetheless nice.

he also controls everything uniquely. Gives you a DLable version and changes the password for every single app.
