and I don't see why bill gates or america *shouldn't* be brought into it.
Bill gates is the world's richest man - $10,000,000 would be like short change to him
and if america can afford to throw down $10,000,000,000 on a fucking phoney war, then surely they can afford more then the $32M they have pledged. or england for that matter - or any rich first world country
that's all I was trying to say.
100,000 people dead - 100,000! it just boggles the mind

I think we should all have a few less beers/pills/grams whatever it is your doing this nye and donate that extra cash to charity. But at the same time have the time of your life if you can, celebrate being free, alive and loved, as this just shows us how fragile we really are.

I mentioned in another thread a couple of days ago that my little brother had just returned home from Phuket where he'd been living for a while now...
... he's been home just over 2 weeks. He was flipping through some images of the aftermath - the place he was living (about 200 ft off the shore) caved in and of course was just buried in water along w/the surrounding area. He spent most of his time crashed out on the beach...
... I felt so sick when I heard that phuket got hit - because it came very close to home for me. When we hear of these tragedies off in other countries - we have a tendency to be shocked... but are able to move on usually in a matter of minutes. When it's close to home (like 9-11 for alot of us)... your life changes.
I want to donate - but I'm not sure who to donate too...
... as far as people like Bill Gates - he's got a ton of cash, yes... and he's one of the largest donators (if not the largest private donater) in America. His wife is the founder of a large cancer research foundation also.
This is one of those times where America should definetly show their 'muscle' and HELP the world. America has so many resources and often feels they're the world police... well, here's their chance to shine as the world's most powerful medical and disaster team. In all honesty - Go America! Money shouldn't even be mentioned here... stop the fucking politics and just HELP YOUR FELLOW MAN.

Well said bizzy. I have never been to any of the other countries bar Thailand and it sadens me to think of those people who had so little but smiled all the time and really made such an effort to make your time with them enjoyable.
Im sure your brother will be saying the exact same thing. I spent 2 week on Phi Phi Island, a beutiful part of the world, no theme parks, no mac donalds, barely any cars, but such a beutifully simple place with warm people who were proud of their surroundings. And now what little they had is gone.this is what it looked like a week ago

bizzy: one umbrella uk company covers a few aid relief organizations so the money will get distributed to where its needed
http://www.dec.org.uk/
i think its just ben set up to cope.or theres a few here to check out:
http://www.gpop.co.ukthere are many more about, but perhaps its best to do some donaions now to get aid fast and then consider a monthly/weekly donation to help continued aid fo rthese people as they try and get over it in the future

Sad.
Amazing though, we get really upset at near 100,000 people yet no one gives a crap about other such things, caused by MAN nonetheless.
ie, Rwanda census puts genocide death toll at 937,000.
- abizzyman0
word, jazX... I think what makes this 110,000 + (new number I just heard was over 114K)... is that it all happened in a matter of seconds... so it's impact is that heavier on us.
But yes... how many die yearly of cancer? car accidents? other causes...
It's sad no matter what you're looking at... because it's all death in the end.
