i am going to buy a really good digital camera. i do not know much about photography but i want to buy a professional one to learn plus i'm taking a vacation in the carribeans next month and would like to have a nice camera. what do you guys think is a good camera for me? i was thinking about the Canon Digital Rebel. it seems expensive but i've found just the body for $550. if i got that, i would need a memory card and lenses? if so, which ones should i get?

the rebel is "ok"... actually sub-professional. To be honest with you, if you don't know your way around a camera and are asking about "what lens and body" to get... then you are probably better off getting something a little cheaper with a fixed lens and flash and a high megapixel (4-5). Canon has a few models that are nice.

go for canon D20
yes you will need memory card plus lenses.. depends if you buy kit it comes with 18-50 lens.. which is fine for beginer...

well i wanted to get a professional camera and play with the different features on it, just experiment taking pictures to learn from it.

then the other 2 guys are kinda right. start with your cheaper DSLR - rebel or (my preferred)D70. They are 'prosumer' cameras, but i know some photographers that have bought them to carry around everyday, and they say theyre really pleased with them.

it seems that the rebel is a little cheaper than the D70, which would you get?

my personal preference is the nikon, colours seemed better. but for starter cameras theyre both great. go in a shop and hold them, have a play.
another thing is, whatever brand you go for, would you go for those when you buy a better camera? cos youre gonna build a collection of lenses up. if you get me. been a looong day.

The Digital Rebel is great!! Had it for about 6 months. The prices have come down since then. Some places offer over $100=$200 rebates for whole kit now.
Takes great shots too!

I was typing about a deal at wolfcamera.com, when I saw a deal at walmart.com. It is $888 before rebate, and then you get the $100 rebate to mail into Canon. Not too shabby of a deal.
