If I have a slide made from a 300dpi 5x7 file, can I then take that slide and get a decent quality super large print?

the target size would be around 24 x 36.

you can. it'll be slightly blurry though as the slide will be good but not as good as a high-res large format camera (digital or traditional film). i'd say that you'll end up with worse quality than if you blow the image up in photoshop though as a scan from a trannie from a file is 3rd generation whereas the file blowup will be 2nd gen.

a tip: when enlarging the file in photoshop, do it in 10% increments rather than obscure percentages or measurements. apparently the algorithims that calculate the enlargement work best this way.

whatever you do can you post the results, it would be interesting to know.
