So you develop a logo for a client and then just before final sign-off they point out to you a company with a similar logo!
So what does the freelance designer do?
How can you independently verify your symbol is somewhat unique?

Mine, is the bottom one. Of course, they are similar, but how similar are they really?
- jevad0
way too similar
- nick0
yeah, they're pretty farking similar. if its any consolation, i prefer yours, just gotta tighten up yar kerning and you woulda been good to go!
- designerror0
looks like you have to get back to the drawingboard, they are way too similar..
- AllenFord0
Yeah, you're right.
Here's my question though:
do I still invoice the client?
Do I seek partial compensation? Or am I ethically obligated to take the full hit and go back to the 'drawing board' without a penny for the first effort?
- jevad0
no invoice.
start again - and try not to rip anyone this time

Fuck, I am not in a good mood. What a way to start the week!
- designerror0
don't worry about it, grab a beer and watch some tv, then sleep on it..
tomorrow you will have a new and better idea, or a better version of another logo..

it sucks... big time - but theres not a whole lot you can do.
you take the hit, or you risk ruining your reputation as a designer. chalk it up to shitty luck.

+ the designer has to be somewhat responsible for a little pre-development market research.
i usually spend at least an hour on Google researching the competition before i start any new branding job.

It looks a bit like a PS2 d-pad icon as well:)

Did you just copy the other one?!

well, if it's for the same industry—way too similar.
No invoice. Go at it again. Happy clients bring in more clients.
Believe me, my week had a worse start.

Im I the only one who doesn't find these logos similar? imo they're not at all, although yours looks like it needs more work, they' communicate differently
- Luckypp0
From a designers standpoint they aren't that similar, but from a client's standpoint, they are extremely similar, down to the colors.
Change the colors and rearrange the layout before you scrap it completely.
