ok so my PC has been acting up like a mother lately...well now it keeps restarting at different times on its own...and after moving so much I cant seem to find where I put my damn XP disk.
I'm thinking about saying screw it and getting a dual 2.5 Mac...any suggestions??
If you could just answer a couple questions for me:
1) Can I use both of my current monitors without problem? Viewsonic and an HP 15 inch LCD.
2) I have a nice Maxtor SATA HD in my PC right now, can I place that in the Mac?
3) Should I do it or get the PC up and running and use that for a while. I have an 'ok' amount in the bank at the moment..yet I also have no job, however if there were a time to switch to a Mac...it would be now, before I get slammed with freelance stuff...but if I don't get slammed with freelance I will have to sell my body to pay bills....

get a mac. you'll get laid more.

honestly... most people here would probably tell you YEA DOOD MAC RULEZZ gget one or yoo aren't cool!//
but honestly.. see if you can get it fixed.. cause when you have no money.. you'll regret spending money later... at least get stable before overpaying for a computer :)
i doubt you're local to Chattanooga, TN, USA... but if you were i'd definitely help you get your box back to stable ground..

have you done the common sense stuff before you drop $2500? Anti-virus scan, Spybot scan, disable weird things in msconfig, etc?

2 things: 1 is a stick of dynamite, the other a match :-) but im not anti pc or mac, i like em both.
prolly easier to just get it running again, but at the same time who wouldnt want a dual g5?

I used to use PC and for those very reasons switched to mac. No problems since.

yeah I'm just so pissed right now. I cant fucking design or this thing shuts down...grrrrrrrr
I know I can fix it, thats not the problem. I just need the damn disk so I can reformat...it has needed a nice OS refresh for a while...but having this problem got me thinking about just switching. I can probably get a good deal from my old job, they gave employees discounts of 5% over cost. I'm still good friends with all my old co-workers. I guess I'll see what the cost is on Monday and make a decision.

plus it just hit me...I have 4k worth of CC...so tempting

iDp you wouldn't regret it!

The best money I ever spent.

if you cant get your pc to work your a fucking moron same goes with your mac......harsh i know but come on guys, this is what we do
if you really think "switching" will change your life, get you laid and make design a shit ton easier do it, but if your a practicle fuck, fix and buy a g5 later.

dot...I've built my last four PC's...if you read what I said, I have to reformat this thing every 8 months or so or it will really start screwing up. Right now its screwing up, yet I cant find my fucking XP disk (so I'll probably have to call MS tomorrow and see if they can send me a replacement). But ultimately I'm just getting tired of reformating this thing...I'm ready to try something new.
I'm just figuring out if I can afford it without putting myself in danger 2 months from now.

if anything.. spend the money on a good DVD burner.. back up what you need.. and then go and buy a new windows XP cd.. cheaper than a mac.. and you'll be up and running in the day.. and no need to buy new software for the mac..
this time last year i was out of a job.. but just got a ton of money from a contract job.. so i went out and bought a new PC.. higher end and everything for just around $800 (self-built)
i ended up not having work for almost 3 months.. and i kept shooting myself in the foot for buying that new PC cause i ended up thinking.. hmm.. i could always eat the motherboard right?... seriously.. if you are worried about being broke.. don't buy the mac just yet.. wait til yer stable...

yeah,
i come from a dell, had those same problems.
it was a drag justing getting in the right vibe to design...
bouhgt my powerbook in july and had a problem since...hmm well yeah i dropped it but thats my own friggin fault ;)

dont fall for the words of these mac homos... build a faster computer (PC) for half the money of a mac. Just don't cheap out on the most important parts which would be your motherboard, chip and memory. Many have had macs that never give them problems.. and some have had PCs that dont give them problems (like me). I have both... bottom line, macs are for homos with "it looks so cool" as being their justification for getting one. Will be less pain with the monitors as well.

get a mac.. im in the same boat.. my pc pentium 4 running xp pro restarts on its own sometimes, i have to scrub it for spyware daily and its about as sexy looking as bill gates.
i bought a new powerbook oct 1, and i'm not looking back, i basically use my pc now for storage, it has 160 gigs, and im trying to get a 20inch display next, then a g5 dual.
pc's lick... and i used to swear they were so much more convienient... convience only goes so far when they suck.
my mac is so dreamy and i play with it almost as much as i play with my girl.

hehe I kind of have a love hate relationship with my PB though, and I've gotten in big fights with Apple over it, so I'm hoping the laptop was just a lemon...uhg decisions decisions.
But it is much prettier, and I do get more looks from da bitches when it comes time for starbucks office day.

yo yars, nice email addy you hammer. you got mac envy and i'll bet you are short
- iDp0
hahahaha
I'll see what kind of deal my old boss is going to give me on the G5.
What do you guys suggest...
2.0 Dual or 2.5 Dual? I do a healthy mix of print and web. Some of the print I do is semi large format (billboards and posters), tops file size being around 100MB. Do you think a 2.0 dual would be fine if I have 2GB+ of RAM?
- BonSeff0
i do a lot of print & web at work. got a dual 2.0 with a gig of ram.
20in cinema with the pantone spyder callibration kit. works real well
- armed_rob0
Id say get the mac!
Having said that I wanna tell you my PC experience:I was working at this PC running agency and had all kind of problems with my PC. Then I changed Windows XP to 2000 – and the problems was 20%
I think XP is made for office use and not graphic design ect.
