Without the WMD rationale, how is the war in Iraq making the United States safer? What's the logical connection?

how is this for being safer
"Remember that for every action, there is a reaction," he said, adding that al Qaeda would carry on fighting the United States "until it forces it into bankruptcy".

the notion is that by having a democratic society in iraq, instead of a dictator, the balance of power will be more evenly distributed among the different regions. this decentralization of power, coupled with the removing of a figrehead serves a twofold purpose; one less enemy of the us to barter with other nations regarding the sale and purchase of weaponry, and two, allows the us to have a vested interest in the region along with a listening post in al quaeda's backyard.
the united states will never go bankrupt. look at the aid we give to other countries. if we ever demanded payment, a lot of other countries would be bankrupted.
and i'l ask whooha to cite one example of something sadaam hussein did that was in the interest or the benefit of the citizens of iraq.

Doesnt the USA have a huge deficit? Better hope the rest of the world world doesnt demand payment ;)

On the aid issue... President Jimmy Carter once commented: 'We are the stingiest nation of all'.
Apparently US foreign aid is overall the largest of any country (Japan was number 1 for a while) , but per capita it's the lowest of any industrialised nation (or in 22nd place or something). Not sure of best reference sources on this (Google it).
Shouldnt this be in 'Politics'?

US has the lowest GNP percentage on the chart doesnt it?...

ten years of sanctions did more that the war on a humanitarian level.

'The average Iraqi was often forced to live in horrific conditions based on these Draconian sanctions,” Haddad explained. “Prior to the Gulf War of 1991, they lived in a relatively modern society, heavily dependent on electricity. In 1991, we bombed many non-military targets – for example, electrical distribution centers and generating plants, waste disposal and water purification centers, factories. The result was that Iraq went from being an industrial country to a pre-industrial state, but one still heavily dependent on a vanished electrical supply.'

about the us debt vs budget defecit and some interesting facts: http://www.federalbudget.com/
the "draconian sanctions" were imposed by the united nations, and wouldn't have happened had sadaam not annexed and susbesquently invaded kuwait in the early 90's.
move to politics agreed.
