My girlfriend has been asked to be a bridesmaid to her mate who we lived with at Uni - lets call her 'X'.
X is from a normal family - not rich but not short of a bob or two HOWEVER, she is being seriously FUCKING TIGHT about her wedding.
She has just asked my girlfriend and all the rest of the bridesmaids to buy there own shoes seeing as she is buying the dresses!!
She hopes that they will all match and if not she wants each person to die them so they do.
Is it me or is this the norm - I am FUMING at her cheek.
You wont even see the fucking shoes as the dress will be dragging on the floor anyway!!!!
Your thoughts please

doesn't sound completely unreasonable, dying shoes is pretty standard for these things
read the last 2 paragraphs in the bridesmaids section here

the wedding industry, what's it all about anyway?
- jevad0
it's very normal.
she can count herself lucky she didn't have to buy the dress.

She also wants the bridesmaids to stay in this particular hotel which is £160 a night
SHE wants US to stay there - now my girlfriend feels we have to and I have to pay half to keep her happy!
I gets worse :(
- karlo0
jevad - did you buy the dresses and shoes when you got married??
- jevad0
yes - but not everybody can!
- soda0
just go, enjoy it and drink as much as you can.
How much is she asking to pay for the shoes? Considering how much the dresses are I think thats fair enough...As for the hotel, seems alright ...

sounds like you've never been in a wedding before karlo, these are all pretty standard things

The wedding will be shite.
There will be no free booze except wine - which I dont drink.
It will be hassle.
Infact it is hassle, as I am having to cut my trip to the US in order to get back for the fucker!!Maybe Im over reacting
Grrr...

plenty of people end up having to buy the dress and shoes themselves.. my ex was in 3 weddings while i was with her.. and had to buy 3 different dresses all of which were over or around a hundred bucks each.. easily..

I am being best man for my mate next year and he is paying for EVERYTHING!!
I have offered to give him some money but he said NO!
As I see it, dont do things buy half... If you cant afford it... wait till next year
Sorry... I just need to express my pissed off-ness

get used to it, adult life as it goes on is filled with more and more things that we have to do. but weddings are a big thing for the people involved. let your gf worry about the details, show up, have a good time, and bring some liquor in your jacket

dont be so cheap man
- soda0
Karlo I think you should mention your concerns to the happy couple.
I am sure that will sort the problem out....
;)
- karlo0
Dude - I would but my girlfriend would kill me!
It is also not a case of being cheap...
Do you want to have a go in my new car?
OK only if you give me petrol money
Thats what it feels like to me :(
- Tara0
stop whining, do what you want
- karlo0
Sorry if I offended you Tara, pet :)
- Tara0
you didn't, don't worry

It's a wedding, it's what happens. You get to stay in an expensve hotel, get bored in church, give someone you don't know or like a present, go to a shit party and end up paying for your own overpriced drinks.
At least that's what I'm planning for ours.
Not really.

Karlo, that is how weddings work.
My friend got married 3 years ago and I was best man. I planned and executed 2 bachelor parties in Vegas and locally and spent over 1500 dollars on the guy.
This is how weddings work. This is why people get married.
