You're '02 (as we Bimmer lovers call 'em) is one of the best cars ever. I nearly bought one myself, but opted for the slightly newer 1982 320i.
If you can find yourself a "ti" or the monster 2002 tii model, you'll be in love. The tii had the earliest version of fuel injection that BMW offered in a US car.
All in all, the M10 engine (which is a 1.8litre 4 cyl) is a great engine. I still have my 320i (runs the same engine) and it runs like a champ. I burns some oil and the compression isnt the greatest, but as long as I top the oil up its okay.
Good cars though, GREAT cars!
