adobe was originally a group of programmers george lucas put together to work on star wars effects. the proprietary program they made to help them eventually became photoshop.
or so i'm told.

that would put the prototype versions of PS in effect in the late 70's. That PS tool bar had the lightsaber brush and the force tool.

Thomas Knoll developed it around 87-88 and called it ImagePro.
BarneyScan bundled it with their scanners. Later that year Adobe bought it and renamed it Photoshop.
