but you have to develop a routine and stick to it.. otherwise you'll never get anything done :/

my cat gets underneath my desk and sits on the subwoofer. I usually don't notice her doing it - but she waits for the opportune time to attack my hand (because there's a tray that holds my keyboard and mouse).
She loves the subwoofer cuz it gets a little warm and it's the perfect perch for her to attack the mouse chord and my hand.
She doesn't go after the cursor yet - but she does attack my TV. I've kind of got her trained to sleep behind my while I'm working. I set up a little bed for her on one of my shelves. She can't get to it without jumping in my lap (then biting my nose before continuing on) then she climbs up me to the back of the chair and jumps up into her little bed.

gotta agree with that. been doing the same thing, I only leave the house to go to the grocery store and kinkos.
Someone liberate me and give me a job!!!

4 th month and counting..
I hate now knowing if I will be paying rent the last week of each month..
how do you guys look for clients?
- shellie0
hmmm.. im pretty overloaded with work. there seems to be an abundance here in california. i have an agent but i havent yet had to use her.. ive kept busy on my own. 30-40 hours a week at my regular freelance rate.
- ad10
i became socially strange, kept very unhealthy hours and snacked way too much, among other things
hehe TRUE trick is to keep no food in the house and eat out with friends as often as possible

hmmm it seems really impossible to not be pretty busy if youre in southern california right now. lately ive been busy enough for 3 people. but... ive been pimping myself around and communicating with people and design firms in the area for many years now and its just now paying off. lots of dinners, drinks, christmas parties, weddings, baby showers and all that crap.
but an agent helps if it ever gets slow. im looking forward to a slower winter so i can do a little snowbaording, but if im hurting i could always tell her im available and get me in an office somewhere. but really it looks like for freelancers it wont be slow at all this winter. seems like there will be a lot of 1 off work.

thanks for making meeklo feel like shit

Shellie Im In SD, is it because Im waaaaay to south? :)
Im bussy, but not as bussy as I want to be, then again I been here for 3 years only and I dont know much people..
- shellie0
ah time to travel up north a lil every once in a while. there is a shortage of talent in LA. im sure you could work remotely.
SD has been pretty much dead after 2001. a lot of companies moved out of there. unless you have a nice cushy job down there that you can depend on... it seems that its sort of slim pickins down there.

I've been working at home for a few years. Yes, I know how to spend a day without getting anything done, just clicking 'Refresh' on NT. It's hard to discipline yourself sometimes. It's just wherever I worked, anytime I was going to work I had this thought in my mind: "just imagine how wealthy you'd be if you were putting these 8 hours of effort and commitment daily into YOUR business". Well.. as the song goes, I'm on my way of making it ;)

well I have been missing staying up late and looking out of the window and work in the peacefulness of the dawn time.
yeah I do have a job. but I think I am going to quit at the end of this month after 13 months.
- gruntt0
do you get that "i'm at the office 24 hours a day" feeling?
- Soler0
Damn You!!!!!!!
I'm working in the movie Office Space right now
- shellie0
no not at all. i've got my kitty in my lap and im working in bed in PJs. it feels great.
however i really need to stop doing that and have a studio space to go to. i'll take care of that soon enough.
- gruntt0
nice.

did it for awhile, and it was great for about 6 months, but my personality didn't like it too much longer than that
i became socially strange, kept very unhealthy hours, laundry and hygiene became comical, and snacked way too much, among other things
perhaps if i had had a much bigger house with a perfect little office setup, then i could lasted a bit longer
