Does anyone know the story behind the sorry ass Verizon logo. I heard that Landor did the design, and have since "disowned" the work. I searched their website, and they don't have it listed in their portfolio... hard to believe, I know. I don't think I'd take credit for it either. Just wondered if anyone knew the story behind it. Just curious.

correction, not futurebrand... from:
http://www.underconsideration.co…"Lippincott & Margulies created the name Verizon.
Landor created the VERION. Along with the red check mark or "V" symbolizing a red check mark.
DeSola Group created the red "Z" and created the Identity Standards Manuals."

I'm teaching a college class on design, and as a project I want to come into class, and hand each student a project brief with a little history of this piece of shite logo and tell them that they have until the end of class to come up with a new logo based on the brief.
Sort of like working at an agency where you might get an opportunity to redesign something, but within a limited time frame.
We used to call it "Beat it, or Eat it"... if you couldn't come up with something better in a short amount of time... you had to live with whatever was put forth in the first place.

Kona, I saw the same thing...
It makes me wonder if they are the client from hell who always makes you do something even though you know it's totally wrong... or if they just have the knack in choosing bad designers.
Regardless, I refuse to use their products based on their advertising.
Can you hear me now?

who's campaign is worse, verizon's or nextel's?
