Compromise? It's a shame that a couple of massive egos (Silverstein and Childs) overshadowed the tragedy and the need for a unified vision. Liebeskind's solo version was much more of a complete thought than this Franksteined-Childskind abomination. If this gets built, it will be a sad day for architecture and more importantly, America.
At least the memorial, which I initially rejected outright has grown on me and is very fitting I think.
Much better than mine.

Libeskind project is indeed a compromise project [w/ Lower Manhattan Develop. Corp.]
There were some beautiful concepts for that area raging from the most avant-garde[Holl, NOX, UA] to the more comtemplative [Ando's unfortunatley never reached the final selection]. What should become a landmark/symbol for NYC has become this 'clean' project that could be placed in some quarter in Dubai, São Paulo or Bangkok as a common redevelopment strategy.
Sincerely I would expect more, much more of this competition outcome.

I'm a big fan of the massive design of united architects.

this is going to be one of the worst cases of "design by committee" clients ever.
it's gonna be ugly, 'cause i'm guessing they've got old dumb people who know nothing about design deciding which one to build.

that first pic looks really huge and fragile. is fragility the feeling what we're going for?

I must be the only person alive who likes the current plan for the new WTC.
I just want them to start.

wouldnt it be nicer if the water level in the two pools was at ground level (effectively no walls, draining to side)...or is there a reason they are so deep?
