Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction, I am looking for some sort of tutorial to build a horizontal scrollbar in flash.
Everything I find seems to have this friction stuff incorporated like from Joshua Davis's book and I am looking for a bare bones thing so I can simply understand the code and learn to build my own.
Anything that could help like how to drag an mc and have another mc's x position change at the same time would be great.

without being rude or even reading your question, this thread annoys me on so many levels.
your title isn't descriptive of the problem.
there are about a million threads on newstoday.
did you try using google?
why don't you try a flash based forum instead, chances are you'll get a answer faster/better/whatever.
As you were.

I don't exactly have a lot of room for a descriptive title, and I am continuning to search google but searching for scrolling and flash etc is rather ambiguous as it can relate to so many things in flash; thus I have had trouble finding quality results. I have tried open source fla's on ultrashock and flashkit, but the ones I have found are either older actionscript, or hve the friction effect which dosn't exactly help for learning purposes.
I have searched newstoday and only found info regarding the scroll component.
So I guess I will go elsewhere...

look in flash help for startDrag function
then use mc2._x=-mc1._x
in a loop to get them to move in oposite directions. put startDrag on mc1

Don't get annoyed by the occasional idiot that is against the very purpose of this site. I would have given you my example, but it's a bit hacked. The last post has a good example.
Some people here are more into the the nonsense threads than design topics. Ignore them.

Public voice network cybrainx ;-)
I guess it didn't bother anyone else as much as me.
kirupa forums are about a million times better for flash questions than pvn

NegativeSpace = negative attitude ;)
Just look for a vertical scrolling script that makes a little sense to you and wherever you see ._y in the code, replace it with a ._x ;)

It's more easy than you think to do an horizontal scrollbar.
you have a rectangleMC called scroller. Insert it inside another MC.
You then create a variable that is going to contain the width of scroll track [ie. scrollWidth]
Within your MC you have to create a loop [I advise a setInterval] wich is going to update [on startDrag] the position oof the scroller in relation to the target ._x. Rememer it has to be the opposite positon [-scroller._x: targetC slides in the opposite direction].In the startDragr parameters, the final one shopuld be the dragSize , like:(0,0,0,dragsize)
dragsize = scrollWidth-scroller._width.

typos extraordinaire.
you're welcome.

I know the question has been answered more than adequately, but when I had trouble with this, the component tutorials on http://www.ultrashock.com were really helpful.
