Illustrator 3D effect

    Hey Guys... I have a pattern that i wanna apply to a 3d sphere (half circle revolved 360 w ill's 3d tool) but it doesn't work as it should, it works out well if i do it w photoshops spherize tool, but i want it vectorized. Tried all the warp tools aswell and i also tried to apply it to a beveled circle using the illustrator 3d tool... nothing seems to work.. any tips?
