Is there any way of creating a gradient from a colour to nothing? to a transparent colour?

Not that i know of. You could try using a blend?

Try play with transparency, eg. multiply etc. though it may only work with black or white

as Sweetas said, put a gradient with your choice of colour to white and change layer effect to multiply!

Try this.
#1
Make a box and give it a color, like red.#2
Duplicate that box (copy/paste in front) and fill that box with gradient, black to white.#3
Select the boxes (the gradient on top) and in the Transparency palets dropmenu select "Make Opacity Mask"Now you should have the red color to transparent.
That's a very basic color to transparent example. Hope that helps.
