dont know whether this is mini specific but I changed, trashed a bunch of stuff in iTunes and now the iPod won't update because it can't find any prevous lists.
How can I
delete all files on iPod and start again? (it starts up iTunes and then dissappears because of the list problem)I just got it - its for my wife - she leaves on vacation in a coupla hours - its for her trip.
thanks.

you on OSX, slice?
- Gorbie0
if you are... go to:
applications -> utilities -> ipod software updater.
Open that and you should have the otion to update or "restore"
choose restore.
- Gorbie0
...and if you don't have the updater then download it off my site if you like:

XLent. that worked.
REALLY appreciated it Gorb.now why is this so iTunes-centric? How do you access the iPod without connecting to iTunes? Let's say for data transfer?
- auricom0
data transfer is just like any other disc, ie, zip, CD, DVD, etc. the iPod mounts to your desktop then just drag your files to it. iTunes isn't involved with the data transfer. maybe also check the iPod preferences in iTunes to make sure you Manually Manage. The automatic sync can funk up stuff at times.

auri am i on crack i cant find taht manual manage!!!!!!
- Gorbie0
i turned that automatic thing off when i first got it..
but i just checked and if you click the ipod icon in the left "source" frame in iTunes - there will apear another ipod icon in the lower-right corner of the app.
click that and you'll get the ipod preferences window, where you'll find the elusive options you seek.
yeah.. i know. that shit is top secret for some reason?!

it's ok tara, Gorbie described it perfectly. one important thing to remember, when you first connect a new iPod to your computer, make sure you uncheck the Automatic sync option as well.....if you don't want your complete iTunes library on your iPod. mine would fill an iPod up very quickly.
