Anybody doing lots of Flash work on a PC laptop? I want to buy one, but don't know if a 1.7GHz laptop will do it well enough.

technically it would work, i'd beef up on memory
screensize would be another issue, since flash has alot of toolboxes

i did it on a thinkpad with an external screen for about a year and a half... worked out just fine for me. 1024x768 on one, and 1280 x 1024 on the other. would never want to do it on just 1 screen though.. just my preference.

I think it is a good idea to have an external CRT monitor also. sometimes laptop color can be off or misleading.

Not really related to doing flash, but I went from working on a dual screen setup to completly working on a powerbook 15inch and while I have some issues w/ the size it seems to work just fine.

Yeah, an external monitor makes sense. I'm working a dual setup at home and work now, so the laptop would have to be similar when I'm working at home. But what CPU speed and types are you guys using? I'm having trouble deciding on just a 1.7GHz Pentium or if it's worth going up to a 3.4GHz.

I got my first laptop like a month ago and honestly it pains me to sit at my desktop computer now.

The 3.4 seems a tad bit overkill for a laptop. Its designed to be a portable, unless your looking for a desktop replacment.

I actually am looking for a desktop replacement. Any good suggestions?

You don't need much processor power for Flash authoring, unless maybe you're doing lots of video too -

I replaced my desktop w/ a powerbook 15inch and its working fine. Just make sure you get one w/ a decent amount of ram.

powerbook all the way. 15" is great, it is replacing my desktop PC.

argh! I'm hopelessly tied into PCs, so that's what I'm after.

I got a 2.2 ghz dell with 512 megs of ram and it works fine for most shit. unless you are working with Build's billboard file or dvd quality video, it is fine.

mrdobolina, what dell do you have? I've been looking at the Inspiron 8600.

I got an inspiron 1000, with an additional 256 ram. it works fine for me, my other machine is a 2.2 amd chip with a gig of ram. and like I said I havent really been using it much since I got the laptop. I do all web work, for the most part though. although I opened and edited a 100 meg psd the other night and it wasn't too bad.

Awesome. I don't know how many 100mb psd's I'll be working on, but as long as I can get flash to run pretty good I'll be happy. I'm working on a PIII 600 at home now, so the laptop will be a step up. Probably just going to store files on the old box until I upgrade it.
