during an interview for a design job, what would you say was the hardest and/or typical question to answer?

There are so many random questions that an interviewer can ask. I've interviewed people myself to take jobs that I quite. Probably, the most difficult is when they ask about your design or work process. What is it? That question to me is a bit vague in that it all depends on work environment IMO. How they want you to get things done. Other than that be totally honest, even if you think it's not the right answer. Generally, there is no right answers but there are good answers. If you don't know something, say 'I'm not prepared to answer that right now'. That's totally legit. An interviewer that wants to be fair with you will never expect more.

wasn't there a thread on this yesterday?

a lot of the time with those random questions like "what's your idea of heaven...?" interviewers don't really care what your actual answer is, they just want to see how you deal with questions on the spot

with questions about the design process i always talk about the user centred design process as explained by jesse james garrett
http://www.jjg.net/ : task analysis, personas, scenarios, user testing, content management etc. Those sorts of questions help them to work out if you are just a visual designer or if you understand interaction, usability, business requirements etc
