What are some differences that may occure when doing prepress in MACs vs PC? I am using a PC at home, but I am using Type1 fonts. Things should package (in InDesign CS) just the same right?

it depends with what the printer works and require. the only problem you can run into are fonts but if you hand over a hi-res pdf with the fonts embedded it shouldn't be a problem. check with your printer first though.

Don't evar take teh chance. do a print out from both a PC and a Mac if you can.
I used to use pcs all the time at work and then my employer finally bought a G5.
there were some font inconsistencies. To avoid them, just zip up copies of the fonts you used on that project and send them to the printer as well.

I was thinking about zipping up the fonts and sending it along with the fonts that got picked up with ID's preflight packager...too late for the last project...but I'll keep that in mind for the next project. Thanks!
I noticed that if I am on a PC, I can't open up a packaged MAC project...I'd have to convert all the fonts to a Type1 format or TTF (ack) to see it. Is there any other ways?

even if you include your fonts make SURE to check the line endings on your film or color key when using TrueType fonts.
Sometimes things can get a little wonky. Either that or insist they use your fonts.

whats the diiference between a hi-res pdf and a pdf?
- jimeeboy510
a hi res pdf with settings such as for Print or Press is optimized to be sent to the printer...a regular pdf at a low or screen setting is optimized to preview on screen (72dpi), which is enough to have type proofed, but not for image and color proofing.

pocho, i've read that TT fonts can be a printers nightmare since it can cause problems...I usually try my best to stick to Post Script Type 1 fonts.

are the the default settings for illustrator set to hi-res?

well if you choose save as pdf in illy you get an options screen where you can choose the resolution.

regarding fonts it really depends on what the printer is working with. either way just add the fonts to the documents you're handing over. i always work with postscript fonts. never run into any problems. can't say if you do with truetype fonts.
