i have been snorkeling in mauii a few times, it is beautiful! but then all the fish with the pointy noses come at you and it is scary...

the one dive i did was on a shipwreck... there were thousands of these 6" long fish that were turning in schools... it was pretty awesome

i scubadived in an old beatup warehouse, in the middle of idaho, with giant oscars, in dirty 40 ft. deep water.

i was an avid diver when i lived in miami and highly recommend getting certified.
i love diving deep wrecks much more than the shallows...night dives are interesting too. i hid in a wreck once and sat still for a few minutes...a school of fish forgot i was there and then school all around me. it was amazing.
well worth learning, but not for the claustrophobic.

hey MLPROJECT, just curious if you know anything about diving in panama? my sis is moving to an island off of bocas del toro this winter and wanted me to come down and help them sort of set up shop (that and dive a lot). just curious what your take on it is...

I've done a shit load of diving in Honduras. The Bay islands were dope.
Also done some in Maui and Miami. SCUBA is the best. So much fun.
You'll be amazed at how vast and complex the underwater world is.
You ALWAYS dive with a buiddy so the deal with sharks is simple. If you see one, take out your dive knife, cut your buddy and swim away. You don't have to outswim the shark. Just your buddy.

You only have to swim faster than your friend, not a shark

i went diving about 5 miles off shore of an island called Raratonga, in the Cook Islands.
I dove about 110' down in a current that would throw my heels over my head - then shift directions and throw me back 10' flipping back over.
I hung onto some coral at the floor which looked over the bottomless ocean. The current would hit the ledge and shoot the current straight up.
Shortly after a school of reef sharks swam beneath me and began to play in the current. They would fire straight upwards inches from my face. Then they would swim over my back, go down below and do it again.
it was awesome.
