Why do all new browsers NOT show the URL of the site they are trying to connect to in the address field? At least Netscape used to do this... (IE never did). It was great for debugging mis-typed addresses, or jumping back up the directory structure... Why did they stop doing this?

IE allows for relative/friendly links in its settings. Check the Properties menu (r-click)

Hey! Since when does IE (Windows) do exactly what I was talking about? All the Mac browsers don't show the URL in the address field while loading...

firefox does do the same thing...i'm doing it now...status bar.

omniweb does it, at least last time i used it...
and it can save your window configurations...

just to clarify... the issue is whether the browser shows the destination URL BEFORE it actually finds the page/image (so you get to see the URL in the address field even if the URL is wrong).
