I'm getting ready to buy a digital camera, and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. I am thinking I should get one with removable lenses, and 6-8 megapixels. My thought is that this will allow for flexibility and should allow me to use the photos for hi res print work. Any thoughts? Thanks...

I actually heard bad things about the new Leica Digilux 2, for it's price it is actually not worth it. Though the film Leica's (m6) are sweet, if I had some coin I would have one.

I'd go for this one:

Or the Olympus SLR, but I couldn't find it. My father has a E-1 that is just great.
True SLRs with optical view finders, not LCD view finders.
PC Mag just gave a Leica a great review, except for the price, of course.

at the very least read up on the Nikon D70.
it eats the D100 (despite the lesser model number) for the most part, and is cheaper. It also performs better than the Canon 300D (Digital Rebel) though the 300D has dropped in price big time to counter.

Get the D70... very good all around for the price..
the new Digital Rebel is nice for the price too... but has a slower write time to the card... if you dont mind that.. it is a really nice camera --> http://www.canoneos.com/digitalr…

Tell us more about what you will use the camera for. Just shooting "anything" and use if for the web, well then a simple compact digital camera will do the trick, and a whole lot cheaper.
If you're going for DSLR's I guess you have a reason. So read up on what kind of lenses you are after, what prices you can expect. Flashes, tripods, bags, dryboxes and whatnot might also be something you would come across. A Canon 10D, or a Nikon D100 might seem somewhat affordable at first, but if you are really serious about shooting some pictures the price will rise. A good lens costs almost as much as one of those cameras.
Of course there's always cheaper lenses, but then again a compact camera would give just about the same result for a much more cheaper buck.
Also, last word of advice is when you have nailed it down to just a few camera models and can't decide looking at all the facts - then go to a shop and grip the camera. It's going to be with you for a long time, so make sure it is something that feels good in your hand.

Forget about the 8MP compact cameras, they produce much noisier images than the 6MP dslr models. It's just that the market required number 8 now.
I'd go for Nikon D70 or one of the Canon bodies :10D/300D (branded digital rebel in the US). Although feature-wise 300D is a dumbed down version of 10D, there is a russian guy named Wasia who's been working on the firmware and managed to unlock most of the hidden options. The 'wasiaware' is very popular all around the world and the change is fully reversible, so you don't have to worry about losing warranty.

the one I posted is a 5'er

check the latest american photo.
i have the canon 300d, i'm primarily a hassleblad shooter and i use the rebel for alot of my shit now... you should get a DSLR... stay away from those wanna be cameras... evf... electronic viewfinder style... get a pro camera if you are tryin to be a pro... you are gonna get laughed at if you pull out a glorified point and shoot on a job... heres the list of the hot dslrs.
nikon d70, sigma sd10, canon eos 300d [digi rebel], nikon d2h, canon eos-1d markII, fujifinepix s3 pro...

Unfortunately the 'pro' DSLRs don't suit everybody... I don't have the luxury of framing and shooting at my eye height all the time (shooting auto shows and design exhibitions from all sorts of angles and heights)...so I need the best quality camera that has a swivelling preview screen...currently a Canon Powershot Pro 1...which is working out well. Now if they could just build a DLSR quality camera with a 3" screen...

A lot of people don't know that most dslr cameras don't have preview other than optical viewfinder. LCD is used for review only. Olympus E10/E20 had a preview, though. Try Sony 717 or 818. Remember that picture quality of 818 is often worse than 717's - these 8MP CCD's are far from good..
- ribit0
E20 had some cool stuff...pity it is now so old and heavy... plus the screen doesnt really flip out properly like the Nikon/Canon swivel ones.... and delay between shots is bad (if you are waiting for the preview display to come back up)
