Question for broadcast designers...
I can't get my head around what happens when you design for widescreen (1024 x 576) and then compress to 720 x 576, then at playout it gets stretched back out to 1024 but doesn't seem to have lost any information. ?
What happens to all those pixels? Do you really get them back when the image is stretched back out? If yes where were they hiding?
confused (and very hungover)

they're hiding in the fields.. playing soccer or something ;)
well.. depending on what your output device is..
if it's on a plasma.. yep.. they're un-needed.. interlacing takes care of that..
hope that helps...

mmm still don't get it.
i'm talking about normal tvs, anything except HDTVs. I thought interlacing only affected the horizontal lines...? I'm wondering what happens to the missing vertical pixels...
