How do we designers design in this time of political/consumerist mayhem.
Are there any NEW/CURRENT artists out there commenting on our lifestyle/choices/silences??I need to know.
Because i still find myself going back to Kruger,Holzer,Kalman, Gran Fury.....and they were active in the 80s/90s.boing.flip

Yes. Or something.

it's nearly dead - let's stab it in the chest with a syringe of adrenaline

i'd rather prefer a big mac injection. i will even sell it online.

that's weird. Reading that word big mac's made me feel really hungry. And i fuckin hate big macs!!
I'm off for a late night shish kebab... hmmmmm kebabs :P
- winter0

- zedvox0
mmm kababs...kuz send me some kababs yaar.
on a serious note we shouldnt let design die then should we?
- lowimpakt0

Design is;nt dead.
Your just not looking in the right place, it might be crap , or might be nice ,but its always there
- zedvox0
i guess i need new directions.
i end up going back to holzer, kruger, kalman, gran fury.....not only does their work still excite me but it engages me to actually do something about how i feel about the world.aren't we designers supposed to be the observers and commentators of our surroundings?

what do you read? what books, what articles, what magazines?
what do you appreciate when you walk down the street? a car? a sign? a graffiti?
you just need to open up your eyes. you can do it.

If design seems dead, that fact should actually provoke more artists to flourish and the truly talented to shine thru amongst what seems lame and overdone, boring. Don't feel discouraged by it's death, feel empowered by it.
- lowimpakt0
i think designers should be the creators of our surroundings not just commentors. although i'm no longer comfortable with the idea of design as the continually unfinished social project, bureaucratic and residing on a singular interpretative model. so maybe it's better off dead.
- winter0
being always there is precisely what's killing it.

"aren't we designers supposed to be the observers and commentators of our surroundings?"
Absolutely!!.... along with the other important stuff, like those nice sliding menu things with transparency, and links that throb on mouseover, and widgets that go "blonk"... those are important too.

I'll give the same response for those who like to proclaim that rock is dead....
