After seeing how much the iTunes/pod interface is connected to OSX and the Apple server.... Won't they soon be able to track and prosecute those songs that are illegaly downloaded? Are we screwed?
- BonSeff0
no. what about all the cd's you buy and rip? and if apple did take a peek at my dl folder and saw my limewired shit, and tried to prosecute for what was in there... well im no lawyer but i'd imagine that's a big privacy infringement

isn't that what they do with software though? If you enter a bad serial then it is tracked?
As far as ripping your own- they could just tag specific tracks they know are illegal, and anyone who has it would be busted?
I don't know how it would all work- it just seems possible and scary. maybe not though

consult my atourney

They'd never be able to determine whether it's legal or not. The RIAA aren't made of money you know, and tracking down users like that one by one would be like asking for a bankruptcy.

How do they track software rights infringement? Is it all on the honor code?

the ipod is their bread and butter. if they started using itunes to crack down on music piracy do you realize how many customers they could convict (read: lose)?

wma is already trying to do that - pressure for supermp3 to do the same

Apple is going for solutions not prosecutions.
Jobs already said that he didn't believe people that are downloading songs were criminals.
software on the other hand is really starting to get sketchy.
