Is there a way in flash MX to go into components and edit them or tweak them?

You can tweak their properties, but I don't think there's any way you can physically alter the code of a factory Flash MX component. However, check out flashcomponents.net. Most are free, some are rough examples that you need to pay for in order to use, but they have tons of great components and scripts.

I dont usually have any trouble with certainly the UI components that come with Flash..
You cant edit them by double clicking like a normal symbol..
You have to locate the folder in the library and go in that way..
I actually just added a nice smooth scroller for the scrollpane component - all the code used is there, its just a case of drilling into it.
Ctrl+E takes you back to the movie.,,

you can tweak 'em, just look in the library, all elements should be present.
